Lincoln County Meth Bust nets Quarter Pounder

LINCOLN COUNTY, Wyo. (CT) – Lincoln County authorities say they seized over a quarter pound of methamphetamine following the search of a 41-year-old Wheatland man’s car last February, according to a press release Monday.

Sheriff’s Capt. Tony Matthews said Deputy Jeremy Pittsley noticed a vehicle parked outside a LaBarge business. Because of the early morning hour and the business having been previously robbed, Matthews said Pittsley decided to investigate.

According to the press release, a check of the vehicle’s registration revealed a discrepancy. Upon closer inspection Pittsley found the vehicle’s occupant “confused” and “possibly under the influence” before observing paraphernalia “consistent with illegal drug activity”

Following a positive K-9 narcotics search, Pittsley entered the vehicle and recovered several bags, later determined to contain about 120 grams of methamphetamine.

“This was a significant bust,” Matthews said Monday. “Ordinarily, on a patrol stop, you only get a couple of grams.”

The captain estimated the meth's street value at $12,000 and said the bust prompted a wider investigation, which has so far netted additional illegal drug seizures inside the county. Because the case is ongoing, officials would not release the suspect’s name but confirmed that he had made an initial court appearance.
